Leadership Practices Inventory - Manager

L.E.A.D. - Leadership Exploration and Development

Leadership Practices Inventory: Manager Assessment

As part of the L.E.A.D. leadership development journey,  the selected reportees from your team have completed a self-assessment of their current leadership practices. We now invite you, as their manager, to provide your perspective on the leadership behaviours you observe.

The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) focuses on specific leadership behaviours and how frequently they are demonstrated. Your responses will help the participant compare their self-perception with your experience, recognise their strengths and identify areas for further development. This is a developmental exercise and not a performance evaluation.

Respond based on what you currently observe.
For every statement, consider how the participant actually behaves today, based on your experience of working with them. Do not respond based on how you believe a leader should behave or how you would like the participant to behave.

Rate frequency, not importance.
Each statement describes a leadership behaviour. Your task is not to decide whether the behaviour is important or whether you agree with it. Rate how frequently you observe the participant demonstrating it.

Think about their typical behaviour.
Base your response on what the participant generally does rather than on one exceptional incident or a particularly positive or difficult interaction.

Be candid and fair.
There are no right or wrong answers. The value of the assessment depends on how accurately your responses reflect your experience of the participant’s current leadership behaviour. The feedback will be used only for developmental purposes.

Avoid overthinking each statement.
Read the statement, reflect briefly on your experience and select the response that feels most representative. If you have not directly observed a behaviour, use your best judgement based on the interactions and situations you have experienced.

Respond independently.
Please complete the assessment based on your own observations and experience, without discussing individual responses with the participant or other colleagues.

Answer every statement.
Select the response that best reflects your experience, even if you occasionally find yourself between two options

Time Required
The assessment contains 30 statements and should take approximately 10–12 minutes to complete. Preferably, complete it in one sitting.
